That title seems so lofty and stuff, but it’s honestly the best way to describe what I’ve been thinking about. I’ve been looking back a lot lately. At all my work over the past year – it’s been about a year and a half since I started sculpting – and the changes and progress I see in my work are so encouraging. And important. I think the only way to become great at something is to never be completely satisfied with what you’ve created. You’ve got to always be pushing yourself to make something even better each time. Heartbroken Dolls
I finished up the second in this series of Valentines Dolls today. Both of these sad little sweethearts got a lot of positive feedback and only one is still available. I had wondered about how people would react to my more solemn take on this day of romance. Valentine’s day is a day that comes with a whole slew of mixed emotions. Some of my memories surrounding this holiday are pleasant, but many are very sad and lonely. Continue reading “Heartbroken Dolls”
On My Worktable – 1/19/15
Spent most of the day today working on this new dolly. I got to use my new pastels along with some paint to give her a face. More tomorrow and possibly the day after, then hopefully I’ll be able to get a photo shoot done and list her. She’s the second of my Valentine’s dolls, a series I’m calling the Heartbroken Dolls. As soon as I finish this one up and get some pictures I plan to share with you my thoughts behind creating these sad little dolls.

And then I started thinking about the board game Candyland with all the different candy-themed characters. That’s when the idea popped in my head – a candy cane doll!! Sewing a Hooded Cloak
Finished up a new doll yesterday and decided to take her outside for a photo shoot. We had a tiny bit of snow left in our yard and I thought it would make a great backdrop. I think the pictures turned out great, but I froze my poor little fingers and toes in the process!! Continue reading “Sewing a Hooded Cloak”
