I finished up the second in this series of Valentines Dolls today. Both of these sad little sweethearts got a lot of positive feedback and only one is still available. I had wondered about how people would react to my more solemn take on this day of romance. Valentine’s day is a day that comes with a whole slew of mixed emotions. Some of my memories surrounding this holiday are pleasant, but many are very sad and lonely. Which is why I chose to create these Heartbroken Dolls. Each of the dolls, Luella and Sophia, carry the two pieces of their broken hearts in each hand – a reminder of how painful love can be. And each have tear-stained cheeks. Such sad little sweeties. If you’d like to adopt one, Sophia (on the right) is still available in my shop.
I’m very happy with how they both turned out. My experiment with making fake tears was a success and I was able to try out my new pastels on their faces. I’m so happy with the subtle effect I was able to achieve with them. I was also able to use some of the lovely new fabric I bought recently. I felt it was only right to dress these ladies in different shades of pink and since I’m really not a fan of the color pink that meant I had to break out of my comfort zone. In the end I think everything turned out great and I’m very happy with both of them. I hope these sad, lonely little ones will bring people some happiness and comfort.
