I finished up the second in this series of Valentines Dolls today. Both of these sad little sweethearts got a lot of positive feedback and only one is still available. I had wondered about how people would react to my more solemn take on this day of romance. Valentine’s day is a day that comes with a whole slew of mixed emotions. Some of my memories surrounding this holiday are pleasant, but many are very sad and lonely. Continue reading “Heartbroken Dolls”
On My Worktable – 1/19/15
Spent most of the day today working on this new dolly. I got to use my new pastels along with some paint to give her a face. More tomorrow and possibly the day after, then hopefully I’ll be able to get a photo shoot done and list her. She’s the second of my Valentine’s dolls, a series I’m calling the Heartbroken Dolls. As soon as I finish this one up and get some pictures I plan to share with you my thoughts behind creating these sad little dolls.
10 Ways To Make Time For Art
Learning how to make time for art is something I’ve been struggling with for a long time, and even more so since becoming a mother 2 years ago. Figuring out how to fit art into my life along with dirty diapers, laundry and dishes hasn’t been easy. And even though I’ve made progress I still struggle with this almost on a daily basis. I’m sure there are those of you out there in the same place, which is why I thought I’d share some of the things I’ve learned along the way. Here are 10 ways I’ve learned to make time for art: Continue reading “10 Ways To Make Time For Art”
Happy New Year – Looking Back, Looking Forward
Well, today is the first day of the new year and I have to say I am really excited for what 2015 has in store. I’m not a fan of new year’s resolutions, but I do like to set myself some goals each new year, along with plans to meet those goals. Before I set any goals, though, I always like to spend some time reflecting on the last year. This last year was probably the hardest yet for me personally, but a lot of good also happened this year: Continue reading “Happy New Year – Looking Back, Looking Forward”
Candy Cane Dolls
I finished up a few dolls this week that have been stuck in my head for quite some time. A few months back when I was brainstorming ideas for Christmas themed dolls I was writing down different things that remind me of the Christmas season – things like snow, evergreen trees, gingerbread, gumdrops and candy canes. And then I started thinking about the board game Candyland with all the different candy-themed characters. That’s when the idea popped in my head – a candy cane doll!! The Dark Manor – How it all started

Sewing a Hooded Cloak
Finished up a new doll yesterday and decided to take her outside for a photo shoot. We had a tiny bit of snow left in our yard and I thought it would make a great backdrop. I think the pictures turned out great, but I froze my poor little fingers and toes in the process!! Continue reading “Sewing a Hooded Cloak”

The Importance of Sketching
There’s something that’s been on my mind a lot lately. Sketching. And the importance of it. You see, here’s the thing – as an artist or someone who is creative in any capacity it is in our nature to take in all that we see and hear, all the things we are surrounded by and allow those things to effect us. To influence us. To influence our art. It’s impossible not to be influenced by the things around us. Which isn’t at all a bad thing. In fact, I think it’s extremely important to surround yourself with things that you find beautiful, people whom you admire and respect, visit places that give you inspiration. But inspiration in and of itself, in all it’s many facets, needs a translation. Continue reading “The Importance of Sketching”
